Society of St. Vincent de Paul

The Society

The society was founded in 1833 and is "a worldwide organization of lay Catholics, following Christ’s call to serve the poor, the suffering, and the deprived."

Our founding activity, still practiced today, is the Home Visit. Through these visits, Vincentian members establish personal relationships with our neighbors in need, not only providing material assistance such as rent, utilities, food, or clothing, but also offering friendship, understanding, and prayer.

The National Council of the United States was established to support local St. Vincent de Paul Conferences and Councils, and to represent them among the global Society’s membership. Today, the National Council provides resources, training, and spiritual formation for nearly 100,000 Vincentians in 5,000 Conferences and Councils across the country.

Installation of Members

Jim Beadles, the regional Director for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in our diocese, was on hand for our September meeting to officially install all our members into the society. Everyone prayed together the commissioning ceremony which invited members to deepen their commitment to the charitable service mission of Saint Vincent de Paul, to grow in holiness, and deepen their spirit of friendship with one another.  

Members were presented with a lapel pen, an embroidered hat, and a certificate of membership.  We were blessed to also have Joanne Croan and Deanery president Cary Petty in attendance. They were delighted to have an opportunity to meet our students. We are all looking forward to a very active school year of service!
